June Bookclub Reviews

I know, I am a just little late in getting these up. Time got away from me.

The Fireman Who Loved Me by Jennifer Bernard
This is the first book in a new series; as a result there were a lot of characters to meet in the story. Fortunately we loved them, especially Grandma. We are definitely looking forward to book 2. The story was cute and refreshing. We especially enjoyed how the hero and heroine met. This is a fun summer read novel and a must for anyone who loves their firemen! 4 Stars

About That Night by Julie James
This book is a definite read, the story opening will completely suck you in. While we know Julie can totally capture the lawyer persona for her characters, she also nailed the IT side of her hero. (This from our IT bookclub members) ☺ As always, Julie has created two strong characters and wove some humorous moments into the storyline. The conflict between the characters was primarily internal, without external forces pushing their relationship. 4 Stars

Plague Town by Dana Fredsti
This is the first in Dana’s new Ashley Parker series. While this falls more into Urban Fantasy, we decided there were enough romantic elements to add this one to our read list. Pop culture movie references abound in the story, which might start to date the series in time. We loved it; even I loved it, and I don’t like zombie stuff. This variation on the zombie theme brings to mind the Buffy the Vampire series (the college years). We loved the cat scene (no animals were eaten) and can’t wait to see more on characters throughout the series. 4 Stars

Beguiling the Beauty by Sherry Thomas
This is the first book in a trilogy, and you pick up the groundwork for the hero and heroines of the next two books throughout the story. There is so much ground covered in this novel: suicide, gay lovers, false identities… The banter between the hero and heroine is engaging and humorous. There is a lot going on this story, and the secondary characters almost pull too much away from the fast paced primary story line. Still, we recommend and are looking forward to book 2. 4 Stars.
