April Book Discussion

So April (or I guess it would actually be March) was a rough month for our group, as everyone seemed lucky to get at least one of the selections read. We still managed a good discussion and had several recommended (non-selection) titles. 🙂 First I will give a brief recap of the ratings and comments we had for the selections.

As Becky was unable to attend the meeting (we missed you!), the Katherine Ashe historical, In the Arms of a Marquess, was not represented. Becky did send along the note that she found the book to be well worth the read, so I promise to read the copy I picked up and and a comment to the post about my thoughts. So we are tentatively ranking the book at 4 stars.

The next book discussed was the paranormal romance, Devil’s Kiss by Zoe Archer. This is the first book in a new series by the author. The theme of the story is that a group of guys accept gifts (powers) from the devil and the heroine works to show the hero the error of his ways and get his soul back. The characters are a little hard to like at first (after all they had no problems making a deal with the devil). Once you get to the real interaction between hero and heroine, the story flows with some fast action and you see some real character growth. We are ranking this book at 3 stars.

The romantic suspense novel, The Night is Mine by M.L. Buchman is the first in a new military suspense series. This book had tons of action and adrenaline. Major Mark Henderson, the hero, is ‘very close to a Linda Howard hero’, and we love those! There was also discussion in the group about how well the story would do as a movie…who would you pick to play the hero and heroine? This book got a 4 star rating.

The last selection for the month was Carly Phillips’ book, Destiny. This was actually the second book in a trilogy. (yes, yes, the horror that we would choose a book that was not at the start of the series :)). There were comments that (the hero) Nash Barron’s story might have been a better fit as the third book. Thus giving the readers time to get over some of the dislike they had for him from the first book.  The reader gets to watch the characters develop and follow along with their self-discovery . We rated this book at 3 stars.

For those of you would like a few more suggestions, here are some titles that were recommended during the meeting:
Bared to You by Sylvia Day
Whispers in the Dark by Maya Banks
Defiant by Pamela Clare (releases in July)
Coveted by Shawntelle Madison
Ride With Me by Ruthie Knox
